PHP session variables are stored in memory than the hard disk minimizing session restoration time. Also PHP keeps compiled version of the code in memory than having to read the disk everytime. MySQL has been compiled to store dual image of the database tables in both memory and disk. Hence when it reads, it only does so from Memory and when it writes, it will write to both. This process accelerates database performance by upto 40 times than conventional installations.
